Project 90 by 2030
| Mission | Our name reflects our ambition of bringing about significant (90%) change by South Africans in how we engage with earth systems. Specifically, we are looking at fundamentally changing how South Africans access and use energy and contribute to a low carbon society. |

| Clean Cooking Activities | To address the high rates of energy poverty in South Africa, Project 90 by 2030 builds capacity of women in vulnerable communities to make and use clean, low cost, low tech alternatives for energy provision. We offer short skills training workshops which builds on the learnings from energy security-related projects in rural communities in South Africa that Project 90 by 2030 has successfully implemented over the past few years. Our training workshop utilise the Keep It Bag – a low-cost, low-tech energy solution as a response to the growing energy poverty in South Africa, particularly as it applies to women in marginalised communities. There is an urgent need for accessible and sustainable energy solutions by women in marginalised communities in South Africa. We see the need to reach out to more women in these communities, to offer our knowledge and experience on building energy security in relation to sustainability, climate change and economic empowerment. |
| Partnership | Within facilitating capacity building workshops on how to save on energy costs, we use the Keep It Bags as an entry-level engagement tool to address energy poverty in marginalised communities. The Keep It Bags form the conversation starter within the greater discussion of clean energy solutions. In partnering with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, we would gain access to further technology/products toward meeting our mutual priorities of carbon reduction and energy security. Where the Keep It Bag (thermal cooking) partially addresses low-tech, clean energy solutions, we need established partners within the cookstove community to provide products or fuel alternatives that further engage our beneficiaries' inquiries into energy efficiency. We plan to continue with our capacity building workshops within marginalised communities, using our partnership to diversify our workshops by bringing our beneficiaries a more robust mix of solutions toward clean energy. |
