| Clean Cooking Activities | Farm for Children Initiative is one of the advocates for environmental education and climate change management initiatives as these are intertwined in sustainable agriculture. Only 8% of Malawi population has access to electricity. The raising costs of electricity has exacerbated deforestation since most people opt to use firewood and/or charcoal. Women and children in Malawi are subjected to smoking toxic fumes from firewood every day in both rural and urban areas. The use of clean cookstoves and/or fuels is inevitable if the health of women and children is to be safeguarded and promote conservation and biodiversity of flora. Hence, FCI has a mandate to promote the use of friendly clean cookstoves by vulnerable households. In the near future FCI intends to design and manufacture cost-effective clean cookstoves. |
| Partnership | FCI would like to promote the usage of clean cookstoves and/or fuels in Malawi. Hence, FCI will purchase and market the clean cookstoves to major stores who have many outlets in remote parts of the country where 80% of the population live. If importing these clean cookstoves will attract high importation tariff, FCI will buy the patent from the manufacture so that the clean cookstoves are manufactured in Malawi. |
