| Clean Cooking Activities | In an initial pilot in 2013, Pollinate Energy has been working to provide clean energy solutions (in particular solar lights) to people living urban slums in Bangalore. In 2014 the operations will expand to both Hyderabad and Chennai and by 2020, the goal is to have a presence in all 53 cities in India that have a population of over 1 million inhabitants.
Since November 2012, Pollinate Energy has sold 2,132 solar light systems, reached 8,469 people and saved 1, 829, 005 Rupees, 35,173 liters of kerosene, and 84, 416 kg of CO2. Pollinate is currently leveraging its existing distribution network to expand its product and service ranges into improved cookstoves. Prior to the roll out, Pollinate undertook substantial research including 300 baseline surveys into our customers' willingness to pay for cookstoves. To support the roll out, Pollinate Energy developed and implemented an initial 3 week training program with our staff which involved extensive community demonstrations and daily sales and technical mentoring from 1 Indian and 2 Australian mentors for each staff member during the 3 week program. |
| Partnership | Pollinate Energy is interested in contributing to discussions/forums, attending events and collaborating with and learning from others in this sector. Pollinate Energy already collaborates with a number of organisations both on the ground in India for its energy business, and in Australia for its international programs - these include Parinaam (foundation arm of Ujivaan MFI)  and AECOM.
As a technology agnostic company, Pollinate Energy has focused on creating a distribution solution to provide clean energy solutions to urban slums - expertise that could be contributed to the partnership. In addition to this business model, Pollinate Energy and its staff would bring diverse experience and skills to the partnership, including engineering, environmental economics, microfinance, management and international development expertise that has been gained across South Asia, South East Asia, Australia and Europe. |
