The Haiti Cookstoves and Clean Energy Market Project

The Haiti Cookstoves and Clean Energy Market Project (the “Project”) will set the foundation for a long-term, sustainable market transformation for cleaner and more efficient cooking solutions. Our efforts will entail a combination of sector-wide, market development activities to increase sales of cleaner and more efficient cookstoves and fuels by Haitian businesses, driving consumer demand to use cleaner, more efficient stoves and fuels; and policy and advocacy to enable the continued growth of the clean cookstoves and fuels market. The Project will be led by the CCA, in close collaboration with the Government of Haiti, local stakeholders, practitioners, the private sector, donors, civil society organizations, and UN agencies.

Position Summary

The Private Sector and Investment Senior Officer is responsible for leading market development efforts in the clean cooking sector in Haiti. This position requires close collaboration with the clean cooking enterprises to be supported by CCA through the Haiti Clean Cooking Fund and other initiatives, as well as investors, grant makers, service providers and other partners relevant to the clean cooking sector in Haiti. The Officer will report directly to the Country Director in Haiti, working closely with the global Private Sector and Investment team.

This position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Essential Functions

  • Lead strategy, design and implementation of market development activities in the clean cooking sector in Haiti.
  • Engage with private sector partners to identify problems / opportunities within their value chains and to co-create solutions to those problems - improving efficiency and profitability for those partners while ensuring social impact.
  • Act as primary relationship manager for clean cooking sector companies, investors, donors, and other relevant market development partners.
  • Develop a relationship and network with the private sector in the context of exploring collaboration opportunities.
  • Negotiate partnership arrangements and budgets; and coordinate contracts, agreements, memoranda of understandings, and other institutional agreements with partners.
  • Monitor trends and business intelligence across the clean cooking sector in Haiti, identify sector-specific opportunities for partnership.
  • Monitor and review CCA program initiatives in Haiti with a view to enhance program impact in Haiti as well as to contribute to donor reporting.
  • Work closely with CCA staff in Washington DC to align on program goals and activities.
  • Represent the Clean Cooking Alliance at various events in Haiti and abroad.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to use the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
  • Draft and review agreements and maintaining an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF's finance / contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
  • Attend training sessions provided by UNF's contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF's current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF's Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in a similar position.
  • A background in market development, private equity / venture capital, entrepreneurship (eg as a founder / manager of an early-stage venture), or management consulting - ideally with experience in Haiti or similar markets.
  • An advanced degree in business management, finance, marketing, international development is preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, clean cooking or energy access business models is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs and multiple stakeholders.
  • Personal commitment to the Clean Cooking Alliance and the UN Foundation's vision.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative while working within a team, and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with CCA teams and UNF staff.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships across a wide range of functional expertise, organizations, and cultural backgrounds, in a demanding and fluid work environment.
  • Ability to frequently travel within Haiti and internationally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English and French is required; fluency in Haitian Creole is desired.

The Principal Private Sector and Investment Agent is responsible for leading market development efforts in the clean cooking sector in Haiti. This position requires close collaboration with clean cooking companies, supported by CCA through the Clean Cooking Fund in Haiti (FCPH) and other initiatives, as well as collaboration with investors, donors, service providers and other partners relevant to the clean cooking sector in Haiti. The Principal Agent will report directly to the Country Director in Haiti, and will work closely with the private sector and investment team. In the absence of the Country Director, the position will report to the Senior Director of Evidence and Impact.

Essential functions

  • Lead the strategy, design and implementation of market development activities in the clean cooking sector in Haiti;
  • Collaborate with private sector partners to identify issues and opportunities within their value chains and co-create solutions to these issues, to improve the efficiency and profitability of these partners while ensuring social impact ;
  • Act as the senior manager of relations with companies in the clean cooking sector, investors, donors and other partners relevant to market development;
  • Develop a relationship and network with the private sector as part of exploring possibilities for collaboration;

  • Monitor trends and business intelligence across the clean cooking sector in Haiti, identify sector specific partnership opportunities;

  • Work closely with CCA staff in Washington DC to align with project goals and activities;
  • Represent the Alliance for Clean Cooking during various events in Haiti and abroad.

Selection criteria

We are looking for candidates who are interested in managing multiple requests and who are also able to proactively manage multiple requests and participate as needed. We are looking for candidates who can cultivate effective working relationships, internally and externally, from a wide variety of organizations, cultural backgrounds and areas of expertise.

Above all, we look for the following qualities that we consider fundamental for success in this position:

  • You have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a similar position;
  • You have knowledge of market development, private capital / venture capital, entrepreneurship (e.g. as a founder / manager of a company at the start of a career), or management consulting - ideally with experience in Haiti or similar markets;
  • You preferably have a graduate degree in business management, finance, marketing, or international development;
  • You have knowledge and experience in business models on clean cooking or on access to energy;
  • You demonstrate the ability to manage programs and multiple actors;
  • You make a personal commitment to the CCA and the vision of the United Nations Foundation.
  • You have an ability to show initiative while working as part of a team, an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CCA teams and United Nations Foundation staff.
  • You have the ability to maintain effective and functional working relationships with multiple partners coming from various organizations and origins, in a demanding and fluid work environment;
  • You have the ability to travel frequently in Haiti and abroad;

L’Alliance pour la Cuisson Propre

L’Alliance pour la cuisson propre (CCA) travaille avec un réseau mondial de partenaires pour bâtir une industrie inclusive qui rend la cuisson propre accessible aux familles du monde entier. Le poste

L’Agent Principal du secteur privé et de l’investissement est chargé de diriger les efforts de développement de marché dans le secteur de la cuisson propre en Haïti. Ce poste exige une étroite collaboration avec les entreprises de cuisson propre, soutenue par la CCA à travers le Fonds pour la cuisson propre en Haïti (FCPH) et d’autres initiatives, ainsi qu’une collaboration avec les investisseurs, les bailleurs de fonds, les fournisseurs de services et d’autres partenaires pertinents au secteur de la cuisson propre en Haïti. L’Agent Principal relèvera directement du Directeur Pays en Haïti, et travaillera en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe de secteur privé et de l’investissement. En absence du directeur pays, le poste relèvera du Directeur Principal des preuves et de l'impact.

 

Fonctions essentielles

  • Diriger la stratégie, la conception et la mise en œuvre des activités de développement du marché dans le secteur de la cuisson propre en Haïti ;
  • Collaborer avec des partenaires du secteur privé afin d’identifier les problèmes et les opportunités au sein de leurs chaînes de valeur et de cocréer des solutions à ces problèmes, ce pour améliorer l’efficacité et la rentabilité de ces partenaires tout en assurant un impact social ;
  • Agir à titre de gestionnaire principal des relations avec les entreprises du secteur de la cuisson propre, les investisseurs, les bailleurs de fonds et d’autres partenaires pertinents au développement du marché ;
  • Développer une relation et un réseau avec le secteur privé dans le cadre de l’exploration des possibilités de collaboration ;
  • Négocier des ententes de partenariat et des budgets ; coordonner les contrats, les accords, les protocoles d’entente et d’autres accords institutionnels avec les partenaires ;
  • Surveiller les tendances et les renseignements liés aux affaires dans l’ensemble du secteur de la cuisson propre en Haïti, identifier les possibilités de partenariat spécifiques au secteur ;
  • Surveiller et examiner les initiatives du programme de la CCA en Haïti en vue d’accroître l’impact de ces programmes en Haïti et de contribuer aux rapports du projet ;
  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec le personnel de la CCA à Washington D.C. pour s’aligner sur les objectifs et les activités du projet ;
  • Représenter l’Alliance pour la Cuisson Propre durant divers événements en Haïti et à l’étranger.

Nous recherchons des candidats qui s’intéressent à la gestion plusieurs demandes et qui sont également en mesure de gérer de façon proactive plusieurs demandes et d’y participer au besoin. Nous recherchons des candidats qui peuvent cultiver des relations de travail efficaces, à l’interne et à l’externe, à partir d’une grande variété d’organisations, de milieux culturels et de domaines d’expertise.

Surtout, nous recherchons les qualités suivantes que nous considérons fondamentales pour le succès dans de ce poste :

  • Vous avez un minimum de 10 ans d'expérience professionnelle dans un poste similaire ;
  • Vous dotez d’une connaissance en développement de marché, en capital privé/capital de risque, en entrepreneuriat (p. ex. en tant que fondateur/gestionnaire d’une entreprise en début de carrière), ou en conseil en gestion – idéalement avec de l’expérience en Haïti ou dans des marchés similaires ;
  • Vous êtes, de préférence, détenteur d’un diplôme d’études supérieures en gestion d’entreprise, en finance, en marketing, ou en développement international ;
  • Vous dotez d’une connaissance et de l’expérience en modèles d’affaires sur la cuisson propre ou sur l’accès à l’énergie ;
  • Vous démontrez la capacité de gestion de programmes et de multiples acteurs ;
  • Vous prenez un engagement personnel envers la CCA et la vision de la Fondation des Nations Unies.
  • Vous avez une capacité de faire preuve d’initiative tout en travaillant au sein d’une équipe, une capacité d’établir et de maintenir des relations de travail efficaces avec les équipes de la CCA et le personnel de la Fondation des Nations Unies.
  • Vous avez une capacité de maintenir des relations de travail efficaces et fonctionnelles avec multiple partenaires parvenant de diverses organisations et origines, dans un environnement de travail exigeant et fluide ;
  • Vous disposez d’une capacité de voyager fréquemment en Haïti et à l’étranger ;
  • Vous dotez d’une aptitude à la communication écrite et verbale, d’aptitudes interpersonnelles, et d’une capacité à travailler en équipe ou de façon autonome ;
  • Vous maitrisez les programmes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook et PowerPoint ;
  • Vous maitrisez l’anglais et le français à l’écrit et à l’oral ; la maîtrise du créole haïtien est un plus.
